thompson fried bananas (with ice cream)

Ever wonder what to do with those almost overripe bananas? 

Yes, you can make banana bread.  But, you can also make fried bananas (this one’s for you, Whitney & Kortney…)  This was sort of a self made creation my sisters and I came up with on our weekend nights in the kitchen.  We always loved ice cream and we always had extra bananas around.  After a little trial and error, we came up with what we thought was a delicacy – think bananas ala mode.

Thompson Fried Bananas

Start with a frying pan heated over medium high, melt about 1-2 tbsp. butter in the pan, slice a banana in half lengthwise and place in pan (cut side down). Sprinkle with cinnamon, add about 1-2 tbsp. brown sugar (to taste), can also add chopped walnuts or pecans.  Saute until golden brown, then flip and repeat for other side.  Bananas will become soft and develop a caramelized crispiness on either side. 

Serve with vanilla ice cream & enjoy.
